To mark 50 years of Silviu Purcărete’s excellence on the world stage, for a week, The National Theatre in Craiova will pay homage to the creator to whom it owes a period of truly remarkable international glory.
For the first time in Romania, the theatrical world and the audience fascinated by Silviu Purcărete’s creations meet in Craiova in an unprecedented celebration. Purcărete Week offers a foray into the current universe of the author of the two most extensive shows in the history of Romanian theatre: “Danaidele”, co-produced by the National Theater in Craiova, and “Faust”, a phenomenal production that has been playing continuously in Sibiu since 2007.
More than a selection of exemplary performances, the Purcărete Week jubilee will bring the man and creator Silviu Purcărete before the public in a series of meetings with those who they are and were, alike, collaborators, friends and sources of inspiration: artists, managers or producers and spectators. The proposed program is a vivid image of the vision of the great director, an open door to his so complex universe.
Thus, the only Romanian director who was present in the official programs of the Edinburgh and Avignon Festivals, the most important theatre events anywhere, but also the first creator of the Romanian scene who was talked about all over the world after 1989 (re)comes to Craiova, in a moment of reference for Romanian culture.
